Football club Gil Vicente claims compensation in European courts in the "Mateus Case"

AAMM partner Paulo de Moura Marques took part in the press conference organised by Gil Vicente Football Club to announce the appeal, a complaint in the European Court of Human Rights, in Strasbourg, against the Portuguese State. At stake is the delay of Portuguese courts in ruling on the second action concerning the administrative relegation of the club. This relegation had been ordered by the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) as part of the relegation procedure in the "Mateus Case", in 2006.

The club's court appeal alleges the illegality of the decisions by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and, as a result, Gil Vicente is seeking compensation totalling more than €8.5 million, for losses arising from the sanctions imposed.

Paulo de Moura Marques, the head of AAMM's public law practice is advising Gil Vicente on the "Mateus Case".
